What is a Sacrament? (C249)

A Sacrament is an outward sign of inward grace, ordained by Jesus Christ, by which grace is given to our souls.  (Catechesim of Catholic Church 249)

This Sacrament is also known as Last Rites/Extreme Unction.  The sacrament unites a sick person’s suffering with that of Jesus and brings forgiveness of sin.  Oil is a symbol of strength.  You can receive this Sacrament more than once.

Sacrament: Anointing of the Sick

Signs/Symbols: Oil of the Sick, and laying on of hands from the priest; sign of the Cross.

  • Sins forgiven;

  • Grace to face trial – comfort, peace & courage;

  • Spiritual preparation to die;

  • If God's will, physical healing.

ABOUT US

The present church building dates from 1910 although Catholics have been worshiping here since the first temporary building was established in the site in 1886.

In 1959 the nave was widened on both sides to accommodate the growing community.

In 1965 a fire swept through the church causing severe damage to the interior.  Repairs and renovations were carried out with the addition of a new organ.
